Be still my beating heart . . .

My daughter amazes me more and more each day . . . my heart swells just thinking about her.  Her beauty runs deep – she is such a special special girl.  We talk about beauty often.  I think it is important as a mother to teach our daughters the importance of a beautiful soul and not just the outward appearance.  We are up against so much with culture and society.  It starts so very young.

Nyah is such a beautiful girl . . .  and with that comes attention even at the age of 6.  This morning the bus rolled on down the street and as it approached the kids started to hang out the windows and shout hello to her “hi Nyah”! and then also “hi Nyah’s Mom – she is sooooo adorable” they shouted.  I just thought to myself REALLY?

So Nyah and I talk often about these subjects . . . and yesterday she comes in and says “Mom Claire and Jolese were making fun of a girl and calling her fat – - and I told them that everyone has something beautiful on the inside and we should not make fun of her – are you proud of me Mom”  I gave her a huge hug and said yes I am very proud of you!

This is also a girl who wanted to give her lunch money to a homeless man – - she looked at me and said “Mom I want to pack”  and she said “I don’t want him to be homeless”  She has the sweetest heart.

So with all that – I dedicate this latest blog to my sweet and vibrant and beautiful daughter.  Even if when I told her “be still my beating heart” she told me “you’re weird Mom”!

She is just barely 2 here.

What to Wear . . .

Well most of you know me pretty well and know I don’t typically tell anyone how to dress or what to wear – - well not unless I style your entire shoot then maybe if I want something 50′s inspired I just might go as far as to tell you what to wear. But!! Here are a few suggestions about what I like best – obviously at the end of the day wear whatever you feel your absolute best in! . . .

*Stay away from white or black – - these two extremes make it hard when I edit – sometimes the white is too white and the black is just too black. (Obviously my lovely brides – please wear white!!)

*Remember to consider texture – - eyelet or lace or ruffles are all examples of textures that are oh so photogenic!

*Layering your clothes looks great – - it can give just enough texture and color and adds eclectic flair!

*Accessorize! The camera loves fun little details like hats, scarves, jewelry – - props are FUN!

*The days of everyone dressing exactly the same are over – - coordinate your wardrobe for group photos – - sometimes it helps if there is one colorful piece that has multiple colors to pull from.

Here are some examples of coordinated outfits!

Hangin out with Megan

I had the opportunity to spend the afternoon with Megan Fenno senior fashion editor at Q102 – - Megan and I had the pleasure of meeting about a year ago.  She is a VERY talented jewelry designer.  She does all sorts of things from designing jewelry for entire wedding parties to commissioned pieces.

As far as the accessories and the store we shot in (of course the jewelry is Megan’s) but quite a bit of everything else was from NVISION – Emily was very gracious to allow us the use of her chic and retro space!  One of my absolute favorite things to do is to have brunch on Sunday’s at the Comet and then afterwards shopping next door at NVISION.  She is at 4577 Hamilton Avenue – definitely check her out!!
